Soils
The country possesses extremes in the quality of its soils. The
Central Highlands have desert-steppe or meadow-steppe types of soil.
The Northern Plains have extremely rich, fertile, loess like soils,
while the Southwestern Plateau has infertile desert soils except
along the rivers in the southwest, where alluvial deposits can be
found. Erosion is very much in evidence in the Central Highlands,
especially in the regions affected by seasonal monsoons and heavy
precipitation. |
